The Client

The Indiana State Museum is located in Indianapolis within White River State Park. The museum houses 70,000 square feet of exhibit space with over 450,000 artifacts pertaining to science, art, culture, and history of Indiana from prehistoric times up to the present day. The museum is also home to the Indianapolis IMAX Theater featuring the states’ largest movie screen. The Indiana State Museum strives to be the most innovative showplaces of Hoosier State history, art and science.

The Challenge

In order to provide visitors with a unique memorable experience, all new interactive exhibits were created. Incorporating elements of digital signage, the touch panel kiosks utilize either motion or touch activated audio and video. Delivery of content across every floor requires a scalable and flexible 4K over 10G IP AV distribution solution. In addition local control and KVM breakout capabilities are ‘must have’ for the project. The kiosk design left minimal space for the AV equipment, a small footprint is a necessity.

The Solution

Shawn Huddleson, AV Manager for the Indiana State Museum selected the Aurora IPX Series Transceivers to deploy across the variety of new museum exhibit spaces. The project utilized a total of thirty-two transceivers, three 48 port Huawei 10G fiber switches, and related accessories. As the IPX units are transceivers, the IPX-TC1 are configured as transmitter or receiver based on implementation.

IPX units set-up as transmitters handle a variety of media playback sources. These units reside in the server room alongside the audio processing equipment, network distribution, and the exhibit control system. The configured receivers are installed in the Kiosks or behind exhibit walls, their small form factor making them an easy fit. With the flexible architecture of the IPX series, future expansion is as simple as adding additional IPX units to the network as the need arises.
